Apply For Southern African-Nordic Centre (SANORD) Brian O’ Connell Scholarship 2021 for SA; SANORD member institution in Southern Africa, are inviting interested candidate to apply for The BOC Scholarship programme, to spend 3 to 5 months at a SANORD Nordic member institution for time to actually work on their research, academic and dissertation.

The BOC Scholarship provides PARTIAL scholarship award funding of R84 000 per applicant. if you are a qualified Master’s students who are registered at a SANORD member institution of higher education in South Africa are entitled to apply for the scholarship.

The qualified Master’s applicant will be asked to spend 3-5 months at a SANORD Nordic member institution of their choice.  so, if you are lucky to be successful in the scholarship, you’ll be asked to do some activities that will actually support the completion of the Master’s degree. The lucky winners will be offered to those projects which are aligned with the SANORD Strategy 2021. (see attached n application form). Be assured the scholarship funds will be given during the 2021 academic year.

About Southern African-Nordic Center (SANORD)

This is a network of higher education institutions and research organizations in Southern Africa and the Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Finland, Iceland, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, Norway, Swaziland, Sweden, Zambia, and Sweden). The network was founded in 2007 and has a secretariat located at the University of the Western Cape in South Africa. Its aim is to promote collaboration in research, education, and also capacity building between the two great countries.

In a nutshell, SANORD is a great network that enhances academic cooperation and knowledge exchange between southern Africa and the Nordic countries and plays a key role in advancing sustainable development and addressing societal challenges in the region.

This is to promote sustainable and equitable development via a strong partnership between Southern Africa and the Nordic countries.

Things To Provide

Applicants are expected to provide a budget for the costs that will be sustained to to the value of R84 000.

• R 84 000 will cover the following costs:

  • A return, economy class airline ticket.
  • Accommodation
  • A living allowance
  • Travel Insurance for the period (could be included with your air ticket)
  • School fees (that’s if the fees aren’t subsidized by the south African (host) institution)

Eligibility Southern African-Nordic Centre (SANORD) Scholarship

  • Be enrolled for a Master’s degree at a SANORD member Southern African institution in the current year that they will be traveling.
  • Provide a well-detailed study plan (academic activities the student aims to undertake at the host institution? like; your course of study, and type of research, is the research aligned with the host institution’s(south African) areas of scholarship? Is it aligned with SANORD’s 2021 Strategic Goals).
  • Motivation for why you wish to pursue this collaborative international study abroad opportunity, and how it will benefit your development and contribute to Southern Africa’s knowledge production.
  • Provide an accredited transcript of records for both the Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree.
  • Submit a well-written Letter of Acceptance from the HOST(Provide a written Letter of Acceptance from the HOST institution) institution.
  • Present the evidence (Letter of support) from the HOME supervisor and also the relevant Dean of the faculty that helps your stay at the host(South Africa) institution.
  • You’ve got to sign a binding agreement contract with the SANORD Central Office (SCO) which is in line with the objectives of the programme.
  • Provide a report within 30 days on return from the home(South Africa) institution to share experiences gained.
  • Present your work and experience at a seminar hosted by the SANORD Central Office
  • Be committed to returning to the home institution to graduate.
